Lastest update - 2nd October 2024

Richard Price, South West Water’s Managing Director for Wastewater Services, provides an update on our work in Exmouth.

Our teams continue to work hard every day in Exmouth to make sure the pipework we installed following the burst pipe in August is performing as expected, which we are pleased to say, it is.

This has been the case even during the periods of very heavy rainfall, including yellow rain warnings, experienced over the past few weeks.

We’ve optimised the way our pumping works during times of storm conditions and although we’ve seen storm overflows operate during heavy rainfall, this is what they are designed to do – protect people’s homes and businesses.

Looking ahead, we are working hard to finalise a permanent solution to give people in Exmouth the confidence that they rightly expect. We plan to deliver this in two stages.

First, later this month we aim to start replacing the burst section of sewer so that it can be put back into use, which will be done in the next few months. Then, when the ground is drier, we will replace the sewer down to Maer Road pumping station to prevent future problems.

We are working as fast as possible to put in place the right solutions and we will continue to provide updates on our plans and progress.
